Close to 50 people attended our DECEMBER 11 HOLIDAY luncheon and heard speeches, sang holiday songs and ate a delicious traditional turkey lunch with dessert. UBC Board of Governor Irene Lanzinger spoke of the high costs of tuition and shortage of housing for UBC students and how the Friends of the VRTA (FOVRTA) educational funds help students each year to study teacher-education or nursing geriatrics and get their degrees. Al Cornes from the Teachers Pension Plan then spoke of the current pension plan details for retired BC educators and what lies ahead. A future workshop on this topic is planned for the spring. The Seniors' Choir from Killarney Community Centre entertained us with their carol singing as well as popular holiday songs. They wore lively clothing with red and green colours and several Santa hats. This all took place at the Fraserview Golf Clubhouse. Much money was raised for the Educational FOVRTA.
